CheckMyTex is built with and depends on the following open-source projects
📝 Note on GPL/LGPL Compliance
CheckMyTex uses several GPL and LGPL licensed tools as external programs (subprocesses). These tools are not modified or linked into CheckMyTex - they are called as separate executables. This usage model is generally accepted as compliant with GPL/LGPL terms.
All tools are properly attributed, and their respective licenses are honored. Users are free to replace or update these components independently.
🔤 GNU Aspell
GNU Aspell is a Free and Open Source spell checker designed to replace Ispell. Licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL), which allows use in both free and proprietary software when used as a library or external program.
✍️ LanguageTool
LanguageTool is an Open Source proofreading software for English, French, German, Polish, and more than 20 other languages. Licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1 or later. LGPL allows commercial use and web service hosting.
📐 ChkTeX
ChkTeX is a LaTeX semantic checker that finds typographic errors LaTeX oversees. Licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later. When used as an external program (not linked), GPL allows this usage model.
✨ Proselint
Proselint is a linter for prose that provides advice based on world-famous style guides. Licensed under the BSD 3-Clause License, a permissive open-source license allowing free use, modification, and distribution.
📄 YaLafi
YaLafi (Yet another LaTeX filter) extracts plain text from LaTeX documents for grammar and spell checking. Licensed under GPL version 3. Used as a library component for text extraction.
🎨 Rich
Rich is a Python library for rich text and beautiful formatting in the terminal. Licensed under the MIT License, a permissive license that allows commercial use, modification, and distribution with minimal restrictions.
⚖️ Your Rights and Obligations
You are free to: Use CheckMyTex and its web interface for any purpose, including commercial use and hosting as a web service.
You must: Maintain attribution to all open-source components and their respective licenses. Do not modify the GPL/LGPL licensed tools themselves unless you're prepared to release those modifications.
No Warranty: All software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, as specified in their respective licenses.
