Spelling & Grammar

Aspell (Spelling) ? Checks for spelling errors using the Aspell dictionary. Catches typos and misspelled words in your document. LanguageTool (Grammar) ? Advanced grammar and style checking. Detects grammatical errors, punctuation issues, and style problems in your text.

LaTeX Checks

ChkTeX (Syntax) ? LaTeX semantic checker that finds typographic errors and LaTeX antipatterns. Catches missing braces, inconsistent spacing, and more. SiUnitx (Units) ? Checks that numbers with units use the siunitx package. Example: "5 km" should be "\SI{5}{km}". Cleveref (References) ? Verifies correct usage of cleveref commands for cross-references. Ensures consistent reference formatting throughout your document.

Style Checks

Proselint (Style) ? Prose linter that checks for style issues based on expert writing guides. Detects jargon, redundancy, clichés, and other style problems. Uniform NP-Hard ? Ensures consistent capitalization and hyphenation of complexity terms like "NP-hard" and "NP-complete" throughout your document.

Code Quality

Line Length ? Detects lines exceeding 100 characters. Long lines make version control diffs harder to read and reduce overall code readability. TODO/FIXME ? Finds TODO, FIXME, XXX comments and \todo{} commands. Helps ensure no draft markers or unfinished work remains before publication.

Ignore Patterns

Includegraphics ? Ignores spelling errors in file paths within \includegraphics{} commands. Image filenames often trigger false spelling errors. References ? Ignores errors in \ref{}, \cite{}, and similar commands. Label names often look like spelling errors. Repeated Words ? Allows intentional repetition of common words like "problem" across sentences. Reduces false positives for academic writing. Math/Commands ? Ignores spelling errors in words containing LaTeX commands (\) or math ($). Prevents false positives for mathematical notation.

Context-Aware

Math Mode ? Filters out problems detected within math environments ($ ... $, \[ ... \]). Math notation shouldn't trigger language checks. Author Names ? Detects and ignores likely author names in your document. Names often trigger spelling errors but are intentional. Bibliography Words ? Ignores words found in your bibliography entries. Technical terms and names from citations shouldn't be flagged as errors. Code Listings ? Ignores errors within code listing environments (lstlisting, verbatim, minted). Programming code has different syntax rules and shouldn't trigger language checks.
